Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee has won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in the 2018 Asian Games after earning six gold medals and two silver medals in women's swimming.
"I'm very happy to receive this beautiful award. I was surprised and didn't quite expect it. I even asked the committee to reconsider the honor. But I'm pleased to receive it," said Ikee at the 2018 Asian Games Media Press Center, Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta, on Sunday.
Ikee grabbed gold medals in the women's 50-meter freestyle, 50 m backstroke, 50 m butterfly, 100 m butterfly, 4x100 m freestyle relay and 4x100 m medley relay events.
In the women's 50 m freestyle, Ikee finished in 24.53 seconds and broke the record set at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon by China's Chen Xinyi (24.87 seconds).
In the women's 100 m butterfly, Ikee also set a new record of 56.30 seconds, beating the record of China's Chen Xinyi set at the 2014 Asian Games (56.61 seconds).
