Journalists need socio-economic security

Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Md Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said it is the time to bring the working journalists under certain rule and regulations to instill a strong sense of responsibility in the profession. Expressing concern regarding the journalist community, he also stressed on the need of their socio-economic security.
Justice Mamtaz Uddin said, the press council has been formed comprising 15 members, nine of them are journalists, it is not moving forward for the realistic well being of the journalist community for lack of strategic option to be materialized for building a healthy environment for them.
He made these remarks while speaking at a meeting organized by Bangladesh Journalists' Foundation for Consumers and Investors (BJFCI) National Standing Committee at the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday.
Earlier, BJFCI Chairman Faruk Ahmed and Vice Chairman P R Biswas delivered their speeches regarding the vision and mission of the organization and declared the project adopted by BJFCI with a view to conducting survey over mobile financial services that are being considered as the prerequisite for financial inclusion for the people living at the remotest area of the country.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by Abu Taher, Main Uddin Ahmed, Helal Uddin, Shaheen Chowdhury, Morsalin Nomai, Rafiqul Islam Azad, Ataur Rahman, Anjan Rahman, S M Mosharraf Hossain with Faruk Ahmed in the chair.
