BNP demands credible DUCSU elections

Senior BNP leaders on Monday expressed their anxiety over inclusive DUCSU election.
They said that there is no peaceful coexistence at Dhaka University now when the authority announced its students' union election.
"There is no peaceful coexistence in the residential halls and the campus of the Dhaka University. In such situation the authority announced to hold election the long awaited DUCSU polls. There is the main challenge to the students to have a chance to franchise their voting rights free and fair manner," said BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, while talking to the journalists after paid wreath at late President Ziaur Rahman's grave at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the capital.
He paid the wreath with the leaders of the newly formed committee of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB).
Nazrul Islam Khan said, "We are fear about the DUCSU polls if the government tries to follow the immediately held 11th national election. The Awami League is in power and the DU authority is appointed by them it is the reason of fear. The big challenge is   
create a fair environment to franchise their votes." He said the government said that they would not make obstacles to create a fair and free DUCSU election. The BNP wants to believe the government's assurance.
"We want to the students of the Dhaka University to get the chance to elect their representatives in free and fair environment," he said.
The BNP leader said, "There will be a fight between two sections, one is trying to destroy the democracy another one is in struggle to restore it. We hope the pro democratic force will fight with all of their power to restore democracy and will be winner."
BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, central leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, DAB convener Dr. Farhad Halim Donar and Member Secretary Dr. Md. Ubaidul Kabir Khan, among others were present.
Meanwhile, BNP Vice-Chairman Major (rtd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, the government decided to hold DUCSU election only to snatching voting rights from the students of the Dhaka University.
"There is no existence of student organistaions in the campus and residential halls of the university except the ruling party's wing," Major (rtd) Hafiz said while addressing a protest meeting at the National Press Club demanding quick release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and other political prisoners.
The BNP leader said, "Leaders and activists from other students' organizations would not be able to franchise their voting rights in DUCSU election."
He said, "Anti government students organisations demanded to arrange polling centers in academic buildings as they cannot go to residential halls due to muscle power of pro-ruling party students wing Bangladesh Chhatra League. But the DU administration has not shown honour to this demand. They arranged polling centers to the halls so that the leaders, activists and supporters from the other student organizations failed to go their to franchise votes."
