12-point demands placed by auto-rickshaw workers

A huge rally and demonstration procession was organized by Chattogram Auto-rickshaw Auto-tempo Workers Union-1441 and placed 12- point demands including new 4,000 car registration and stopping police harassment in front of Bakalia Government College of Chattogram on Saturday.
Union Joint Secretary Md Shahidul Islam presided over the programme . The chief guest was General Secretary of the Tanglari Workers’ Union, Abu Bakkar Siddique. The keynote speaker was Harunur Rashid, General Secretary of the union. Bus-minibus Hall Association President Nurul Islam was the special guest of the programme.
Union Finance Secretary Md Jasim Uddin, Publicity Secretary Abdul Aziz, Kalamia Bazar Branch President Md Sabu, Secretary Alauddin, Hatkhol President Absar and Acting President Md Nabi, Secretary Aktar were also present in the programme.
The chief guest at the rally said that no parking case is acceptable even though there is no parking system in the city.
In the meter issue, some sergeants are playing a very encouraging role. He urged the government to renew the registration of 4,000 more cars, considering the size and population of the city.
General Secretary Haroon Rashid said that people in Chattogram have increased, people’s quality of life has improved, roads have increased but CNG-driven auto-rickshaw has not increased.
About 26,000 workers are sharing their 13,000 car by dividing the time. So far no one has taken steps to improve the quality of life of the workers.
He said, the last registration was occurred in 2002, many of those vehicles have now become obsolete. But the area of the city has also increased, yet the government is not registering new vehicles for Chattogram.
He said that considering the area and population of Chattogram city, it is reasonable to give registration of 4,000 more vehicles in the city, but the authorities are not implementing it.
