Adv Khandker Mahbub Hossain’s first death anniv observed

In observance of the first death anniversary of Khandker Mahbub Hossain a discussion and Doa Mahfil was held at Khandker Mahbub Hossain Eye Hospital in city’s Mirpur on Sunday.

Senior lawyer and the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vice-chairman Khandker Mahbub Hossain’s first death anniversary observed.

Early in the morning at 8:00 pm the party colleagues, lawyers’ friends, juniors as well as judges and court officials and a host of admirers paid floral tribute to his grave in the Azimpur graveyard.

After Johar prayer a discussion and Doa Mahfil was held at Khandker Mahbub Hossain Eye Hospital located in Mirpur area in capital where noted people, lawyers’ friends, juniors and hospital officials were present.

In the discussion Khandakar Mahbub Hossain’s better half Professor Dr Farhat Hossain recalled her husband’s life and works.

Professor Dr Farhat Hossain said Khandakar Mahbub Hossain has been spent his entire life to develop the people life. He never thought about himself as well as family also.

She said Khandakar Mahbub Hossain was very kind hearted to the people especially about visually impaired citizens.

He always thought how to do something for blind people and from this novel thinking he has founded the Bangladesh National Society for the Blind (BNSB), vocational training center for the blind and Khandker Mahbub Hossain Eye Hospital, she added.

In the discussion and Doa Mahfil programme Khandker Mahbub’s junior and also supreme court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir, Advocate Humayun Kabir Monju, son-in-law of Khandker Mahbub Hossain Rezwan Bin Faruk, Nasrin Khandker, acting general secretary of BNSB, Vice-chairman of BNSB Joynal Abedin, Dr Ali Ahasan, chief consultant of Khandker Mahbub Hossain Eye Hospital, Khandker Muhidul Islam Murshed, Director , Deputy Director Gulam Mustafa and Supervisor Md Ariful Islam (Sajib).

Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain were involved in various activities during livelihood. He was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association on four occasions and also a vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council.

Khandker Mahbub worked as the chief prosecutor during the trial of Bangladeshi collaborators of the Pakistan armed forces.

He was the defence lawyer for the war criminals tried after the Awami League government assumed power in 2009. Khandker Mahbub was enrolled as a lawyer of the High Court Division in 1967.

As a relative of Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah, founding editor of the daily Ittefaq, he had good political connections. He joined the BNP in 2008.

He contested the national elections in 2018 as a BNP candidate in a Barguna constituency.

Mahbub, who participated in the Language Movement, was arrested during the Ayub Khan regime for violating Section 144.
He was elected vice-president of the Dhaka University Law Association in 1962.
