AL blames propaganda for low turnout

Staff Reporter :
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader attributed the low voter turnout in the recent Upazila Parishad elections to the concerted propaganda efforts of the BNP and its allied political factions, as well as the influence of prominent intellectuals within the country.

Despite acknowledging that the election process was not “good,” Quader described it as “satisfactory.”

Quader made these comments during a press conference at the Dhanmondi political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.

According to him, the Election Commission reported that voter participation exceeded 30 percent.

“We will learn the actual turnout tomorrow (Wednesday). It is important to note that local government elections in our neighboring Indian state of West Bengal and in Bangladesh are not typically peaceful. There are often conflicts and disputes.

In the last panchayat elections in West Bengal, there were even incidents of fatalities,” Quader remarked.
