AL to start poll campaign from Sylhet Dec 20

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League (AL), is going to commence her formal campaign for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections through the visit to shrines of Shahjalal and Shah Paran in Sylhet on December 20.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader made the disclosure on Sunday while talking to journalists at the political office of AL President Sheikh Hasina in the capital’s Dhanmondi.

“The election campaign is set to kick off on December 20 with a visit to the shrines in Sylhet. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit to shrines of Shahjalal and Shah Paran.

Following the visits, a public meeting will also take place in Sylhet, marking the inaugural election rally,” said Obaidul Quader.

Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Mahbubul Alam Hanif MP, AFM Bahauddin Nasim and organizing secretary Mirza Azam, among others, were present there.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has submitted nomination paper as a candidate of the AL for Gopalganj-3 Constituency.

Her party has fielded candidates for 298 seats to contest countrywide in the upcoming 12th JS polls slated for January 7, 2024.
