Staff Reporter :
The main opposition party-BNP-on Sunday alleged that the Awami League government has killed democracy in Bangladesh.

On the ruling party leaders laughing at the BNP’s black flag processions across the country, the BNP leaders said that there was only one reason of mourning that was the AL government has killed democracy in the country.

“AL is making laughter at our black flag procession saying it was sign of mourning. But the ruling party has lost its sense.

It could not understand that they have killed democracy in the country and there was no greater grief than it,” BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan said while addressing a discussion meeting organized by Gono Forum and Bangladesh People’s Party. Dr. Moyeen has urged BNP’s leaders and activists to keep their spirits intact.

The BNP leader said the country’s people must be given back the right to vote.

“There is nothing to be disappointed, even if the BNP could not do anything as expected in the January 7 polls,” he said.

He said the BNP wants to bring back the democratic atmosphere in the country, not terrorism.

“BNP believes in the politics of peace… BNP has never repressed the opposition while in power. During the period of the Awami League, the opposition was persecuted the most,” he said.

Dr. Moyeen said, “BNP and Awami League are parties of different character. BNP does not do what Awami League does. BNP is a democratic political party.”
