Expelled BNP leader Freedom Fighter Barrister Shahjahan Omar Bir Uttam, a candidate for Boat symbol in Jhalokathi-1 constituency seat, claimed Awami Legaue (AL) leader Amir Hossain Amu sent him to BNP and now the AL chairman asked him to join AL.
He said, “Abdur Rob Serniabat, Amir Hossain Amu and Abul Hasanat Abdullah jumped for me during the crisis. For what I survived, otherwise I would have been jailed long ago.
He said this in response to the questions from reporters after a meeting with Rajapur and Kanthalia Upazila Awami League on Wednesday night at the residence of Amir Hossain Amu, the spokesperson of the alliance of 14 parties.
Omar said BNP leader Nurul Islam Manju dismissed my job by putting me in the case in 1974 misrepresenting Bangabandhu. While I was in great danger Abdur Rob Serniabat, Amir Hossain Amu and Abul Hasanat Abdullah jumped to free me from that danger. Abul Hasanat Abdullah visited me several times in jail.
He also said, I hate Ershad because a court martial was made to try all the Bengali officers in the Pakistan Army who wanted to come to this country or spoke for this country and the chairman of that court was Lt. Col. Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
A law was passed during Bangabandhu’s time that if an army officer from Pakistan came to the country and did not join the liberation war, his job would be lost. But Hussain Muhammad Ershad is the only person who came to the country in 71 and left without fighting. He has been retained in the job because of General Osmani.
He said I was in BNP till 29th October 2023. At around 10:30 am next day3, I received a phone call at my home saying that the Prime Minister wanted to meet me. After went there, the Prime Minister asked me to join his team. In response I said, I can do it on one condition. On August 15, three of your brothers were martyred, if you accept me as the fourth brother. After that she asked me to sign, I signed, I joined Awami League.
She gave me election ticket for AL. After that I contacted Amu Bhai and Hasnat Bhai. Amu Bhai said I know everything.
