Armed conflict between rival groups leaves 20 injured

At least 20 persons were injured when clashes took place in between the 2 rival groups of people in the village Ghosgati under Mollahat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Wednesday morning (May 22) over the expansion of supremacy in the localities, according to a delayed report received here. 6 out of 20 injured persons were admitted to Khulna and Gopalganj Medical College Hospitals for their better treatment. A police squad was already deployed there in order to maintain the law and order of the localities.
It is learnt from some local eye-witnesses and the family members of the injured persons that some supporters belonging to a group of people led by one Hedayet Shaikh were staying in a tea stall at the local Baraghat area in the village. Being informed of the matter the other group of people led by one Sagar Shaikh appeared there and attacked the opponents. As a result, a clash was taken place between the 2 rival groups of people. Following the incident a number attacks and counterattacks were taken place in between the 2 groups and 5/7 dwelling houses were ransacked and looted. As a result, 20 persons of both the groups were injured. But no case was lodged with Mollahat PS till Thursday.
