Bagerhat youth gets life-term for killing businessman

Mohammad Rabiul Islam, District and Session Judge, Bagerhat in a judgment on Thursday sentenced a youth named Raju Fakir (22) to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Tk. 10 thousand in default to suffer another imprisonment for three months more on the charge of killing Rubel Fakir, a small trader of Chitalmari Upazila, On the other hand, the learned judge acquitted 10 others of the charge for want of sufficient evidences. At the time of delivery of the judgment both the convicted and the acquitted persons were present.
The story behind judgment, in short, is that the convicted Raju Fakir is the son of one Rezaul Fakir of village Khilgati under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district and the deceased Rubel Fakir, son of one late Mohsin Fakir of the same village was a small trader of Khilgati Bazar. At the night of May 02 in the year of 2019 an altercation was taken place between the convicted and deceased (Rubel Fakir) over the transaction of money and when it reached its climax convicted Raju Fakir became furious and hit on the head of Rakib with a cricket stamp violently. As a result, Rakib was fatally injured. Then injured Rakib was rushed to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where the physicians on duty considering his precarious condition he was advised to be admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. But on May 03 while he was going to Dhaka for his better treatment and on his way to Dhaka he expired.
