Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers: Bangladesh move into the 1st-position decider

Bangladesh moved into the 1st-position decider match with 3-0 win over Sri Lanka in the tie-breaker of the semi-final of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
The stipulated time ended in a 2-2 draw and the result of the match was decided in the tie-breaker. Sabbir Hossain, Krishna Kumar and Sarwar Hossain scored in the tie-breaker. Mainul Islam Koushik missed. For Sri Lanka Tharanga Irosha, Sandaruwan Priyalanka and Lahiru Gihan Weersooriya failed to score as Bangladesh goalie Ashim Gope foiled their attempts.
Bangladesh will face Oman in the 1st-2nd place decider, Sri Lanka and Singapore will play the 3rd-4th place decider, Chinese Taipei and Iran will meet in the 5th-6th place decider and Qatar and Hong Kong China face each other in the 7th-8th place decider today.
Sri Lanka took the lead in the 20th minute through a combined attack. Rajita Dilan Kulathunga pushed a square pass to Damith Madhusanka who coolly pushed the ball past Bangladesh goaie Ashim Gope (1-0).
In the last minute of the first half Bangladesh skipper Mamunur Rahman Chayan’s drag bounced back from the cross post.
Bangladesh restored the parity in the 43rd minute off a penalty stroke. After a tricky penalty corner Nannu’s slap hit was struck in the hand of Sri Lankan defender Tharnaga Irosha and Bangladesh were awarded the penalty, Pushkor Khisha Mimo converted the penalty (1-1).
In the 61st minute Rabbi Salehin flicked a powerful hit of Mamunur Rahman Chayan into the Sri Lankan post (2-1)
Lahiru Gihan Weerosooriya of Sri Lanka equalized the margin by a penalty stroke in the 63rd minute (2-2).
Thus the fate of the clash was decided in the tie-breaker.
