Fargana hits century: Bangladesh Women lose to SA Women

Opener Fargana Hoque hit a century but Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team lost to South Africa (SA) Women’s Cricket team by eight wickets in their second One Day International (ODI) match at Potchefsrtoom in South Africa on Wednesday night. Fargana Hoque notched up an outstanding 102. Her 167-ball innings was belted with 11 fours.
Put into bat first, Bangladesh scored a fighting total of 222 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply, South Africa cruised into the victory target making 223 for the loss of two wickets with 29 deliveries remaining.
Bangladesh made a good start as openers Shamima Sultana and Fargana Hoque contributed 48 runs in the opening stand before Shamima Sultana (28) was dismissed by Masabata Klaas.
One-down Murshida Khatun (8) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta off Marizanne Kapp when Bangladesh’s total was 63 for the loss of two wickets.
After Murshida’s dismissal, Fargana Hoque and Nigar Sultana mended the innings contributing together 58 runs for the third wicket partnership before Nigar (13) was caught behind by Jafta off Kapp when Bangladesh’s score was 121 for the loss of three wickets.
After Nigar’s departure, Fargana Hoque and Fahima Khatun put on together 93 runs in the four-wicket stand before Fargana Hoque was run out by a joint-effort of Tazmin Brits and Jafta when Bangladesh’s total was 214 for the loss of four wickets.
Fahima Khatun remained unbeaten with 46. Her 48-ball knock had three fours.
Kapp bagged two wickets at the cost of 21 runs, while Klaas took one wicket conceding 50 runs.
South Africa had a formidable start with two openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tanzim Brits put on together 106 runs for the opening stand before Brits was caught by Marufa Akter off Ritu Moni.
Brits knocked a sedate 50. Her 84-ball innings had two fours and a six.
After Brits’ departure, Laura could not stay at the crease for a long period as Laura was bowled out by Fahima Khatun when South Africa’s total was 106 for the loss of two wickets.
Laura hit a captain’s knock of 54. She hit three fours in her 67-ball innings.
After Laura’s departure, Anneke Bosch and Sune Luus powered their team to reach the victory target scoring together 117 runs for the unbroken third wicket partnership.
Bosch remained unbeaten with 65 runs, while Luus remained unbeaten with 47 runs. Bosch was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Ritu Moni and Fahima Khatun picked up one wicket each for 23 and 44 runs respectively.
