Staff Reporter, Karimganj :

Jatiya Party (Japa) General Secretary, former Minister Mujibul Haque Chunnu’s election poster reads ‘Awami League supported Jatiya Party nominee’ that caused intense anger among Awami League leaders and activists in Kishoreganj-3 (Karimganj-Tarail) seat as there are four independent candidates involved in Awami League politics in this seat.
It is known that in the 12th National Parliament elections, the seats were negotiated between Awami League and Jatiya Party. Awami League nominated candidate for Kishoreganj-3 constituency withdrew his nomination. Awami League candidate for this seat was Karimganj Upazila Awami League convener Nasirul Islam Khan Awlad. He resigned from the post of Karimganj Upazila Parishad Chairman and submitted his nomination papers.
The campaign officially started on December 18 with the allotment of symbols. Jatiya Party General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu’s poster reads ‘Jatiya Party Nominee and Awami League Supported’ has created intense anger among Awami League leaders and activists in Karimganj and Tarail upazilas.
Four independent candidates involved in Awami League politics are running in the seat. They are, Major (Rtd.) Md. Nasimul Haque (Kanchi), organizing secretary of New York Awami League, Mahfuzul Haque (Eagle), Md. Rubel Miah (Truck) and Central Volunteer League Labor Secretary Barrister Golam Kabir Bhuiyan (Kettle).
Jatiya Party Secretary Mujibul Haque Channu was called several times to inquire about the poster, but he did not pick up.
Nasirul Islam Awlad, who withdrew his candidature despite receiving the nomination of the boat, said that Mujibul Haque Chunnu has been exempted from this seat due to an agreement with the Jatiya Party. That does not mean that Awami League has given him support. So the poster should not have written ‘Awami League supported’. It was unfair.
