The mystery surrounding the death of ruling party MP Anwarul Azim has begun to unravel.

On Thursday afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) Chief Additional Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid revealed grim details about the Jhenaidah-4 constituency MP’s murder.

According to Harun-or-Rashid, the chances of recovering Azim’s body are slim, as the assailants dismembered and disposed of the corpse in an attempt to prevent its discovery.

“Despite this, efforts to recover the body continue. Kolkata police officials have arrived in Dhaka to collaborate on the investigation” added Harun.

“They tried to dispose of the body in such a way that it can never be found. They separated the meat from the bones and chopped them into small pieces.

The killers mixed cooking spices with the meat to misguide people,” Harun-or-Rashid said during a press briefing.

Azim was reportedly murdered within half an hour of entering a flat in Sanjeeva Gardens, Kolkata’s Newtown. Faisal, a key suspect, received Azim in a white car at noon on May 13.

Faisal and Amanullah, alias Shimul Bhuiya, the primary organizer of the murder, accompanied Azim to the flat around 2:51 PM. Mostafiz, another suspect, joined them later, with Jihad and Siam already present.

The DB Chief stated that Amanullah, a leader of the East Bengal Communist Party, and Shilasti Rahman, the girlfriend of planner Shahin, are in custody and have provided details of the murder.

Initially, the conspirators planned to execute the murder in Bangladesh but relocated to Kolkata due to the heightened activities of the DB in Dhaka.

When questioned about the recovery of Azim’s remains, Harun-or-Rashid said they are actively working on it.

Indian police are also attempting to trace the body parts with the help of the vehicle driver involved in the disposal. Sources from Kolkata CID indicated that the body was transported in three trolley bags.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed that the killers have been identified, describing the murder as well-planned and insisting that Bangladeshis were behind it.

MP Anwarul Azim traveled to Kolkata on May 11 and was reported missing two days later. He is believed to have been murdered in a flat rented by his childhood friend and business partner Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, who is now a US citizen.

“We said that for the sake of investigation. I will inform you after the investigation. We are unable to give any new update at this time. We did not get any news at this time.
