Country records six new Covid deaths, 197 cases

Bangladesh has registered six new deaths from COVID-19 in a day, taking the total toll to 28,001.
The COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,577,443 as 197 people tested positive for the disease in the 24 hours to 8 am on Sunday, according to the latest government data.
Dhaka recorded the most cases among the eight divisions, logging 167 infections. It also recorded five fatalities, reports bdnews24.com.
Nationwide, another 226 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,542,274.
As many as 19,132 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 1.03 per cent. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.77 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.78 per cent.
Globally, over 265.53 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.25 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
BSS adds: In the past 24 hours, the combined figure of coronavirus in Dhaka city and upazilas of the district is 151 while five Covid-19 deaths were reported during the period.
The official tally showed that the virus killed 28,001 people and infected 15,77,443 so far, the statement added.
The recovery count rose to 15,42,274 after another 226 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
From the beginning of the pandemic, 97.77 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the total infected people while 1.78 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.
The DGHS said among the total 28,001 fatalities, 12,226 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,681 in Chattogram, 2,051 in Rajshahi, 3,612 in Khulna, 946 in Barishal, 1,271 in Sylhet, 1,367 in Rangpur and 846 in Mymensingh divisions.
