Death condoled

Dhaka University former Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Swadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak winning National Professor, Bangla Academy President and noted scholar Rafiqul Islam.
In a condolence message , he said Prof Rafiqul Islam played an active role in all democratic movements and struggles in Bangladesh including the Language Movement and the great Liberation War.
How Prof Rafiqul Islam organized the teachers’ community is a bright example, he mentioned.
Following the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prof Rafiqul Islam played significant role in the struggle for freedom of Bangalee nation during the colonial and Pakistan period, he said.
He said as the chairman of the national implementation committee for Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebration, Prof Rafiqul Islam played an important role with his hard work.
Prof Arefin hoped that the new generation would learn from the life and works of the noted scholar.
He also prayed for eternal peace of departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
