Nasum grabs 5/22: Easy win for Mohammedan in DPL Cricket

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited registered an easy five-wicket win over Brothers Union in their Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Friday.

By virtue of yesterday’s victory, Mohammedan Sporting Club reached the Super League.

Mohammedan Sporting Club collected 16 points from 11 matches, while Brothers Union remained with six points from as many outings.

Chasing Brothers Union’s meagre total of 135 off 34.3 overs, Mohammedan Sporting Club sailed home making 140 for the loss of five wickets when they had 160 balls to spare.

Mohammedan had a solid start with two openers Imrul Kayes and Rony Talukdar put on together 66 runs in the opening stand before Rony (10) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Abdul Mazid off Ali Mohammad Walid.

Imrul Kayes remained unbeaten with 92 runs. His 71-ball captain’s knock was laced with 12 fours and three sixes.

Imrul Kayes and Rubel Mia built a worthy partnership as they scored together 28 runs for the third wicket partnership before Rubel Mia (14) was run out by a joint-effort of Abdul Mazid and Rahmat Ali when Mohammedan’s total was 95 for the loss of three wickets.

Later, Imrul Kayes and Mehidy Hasan Miraz guided their team to the victory target putting together 22 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket partnership.

Miraz remained unbeaten with seven runs.

Nur Mohammad bagged two wickets instead of 51 runs, while Ali Mohammad Walid and Rahatul Ferdous took one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Nasum Ahmed of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited played the key role in wrecking Brothers’ innings capturing five wickets at the cost of 22 runs.

Nasum Ahmed was adjudged the Man of the Match for his terrific bowling performance.

Miraz grabbed three wickets in the space of 28 runs.

Besides, Asif Hasan and Abu Hider took one wicket each giving 18 and 20 runs.

Mahmudul Hasan and Rahatul Ferdous fought back against the bowling attack of the bowlers of Mohammedan Sporting Club.

Mahmudul Hasan notched up 45 runs. He hit six fours in his 58-ball innings before he was dismissed by Nasum Ahmed.

Rahatul Ferdous also made 45. He struck five fours and a sixer in his 62-ball knock before he was trapped leg before wicket by Nasum Ahmed.

Besides, Zakirul Ahmed added 25 runs to the Brothers Union total.
