Fishermen fall in calamities in Bay of Bengal

Fishermen who went to the Bay of Bengal to catch fish 4 days ago fell in natural calamities once again as it (Bay of Bengal) became highly waved following the gusty wind is sweeping over the Bay.

Consequently, the fishermen could not cast their fishing nets in the Bay in order to catch fish and as a result, hundreds of fishing boats and trawlers took shelter in the different places in Sundarbans and safe places of the coastal belts.

Following the prevailing of inclement weather in the Bay of Bengal the fishing boats are returning from the Bay without catching any fish regularly.

As a result, both the fishermen and owners of fishing boats and trawlers and the whole sell fish dealers known as Mahajans are incurred a heavy loss.

Abul Hossain, President of the owners’ Association of Fishing boats and trawlers of Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district told, the weather position of the Bay became violent all on a sudden on Monday just afternoon with gusty wind accompanied with big and high waves.

As a result, all the fishing boats and trawlers were forced to leave the sea and took shelters at Kachikhali, Bhedkhali, Dubla, Meher Alir canals of Sundarbans and the the safe coastal points like Patharghata, Mohipur, Khepupara, Nidrasakina etc.

All the fishing trawlers and boats are in safer places. Abul Hossain added, a sum of Tk.3/4 lakh is spent to send a fishing trawler or a fishing boat to the sea for catching fish.

The Bay of Bengal became violent twice within ten days in the month of September due to gusty winds. Consequently, the fishermen could not catch any fish from the sea (Bay of Bengal) and the fishermen and Mahajans incurred heavy losses and they are now on the verge of destitute,
Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, President of the owners’ Association of fishing trawlers of Barguna district told, most of the fishing boats and trawlers returned to their respective docks from the sea without catching fish due to prevailing of gusty wind in the sea and the rest fishing boats and trawlers are on the way to returning to their respective docks.

Dulal Bepari, boatman of a fishing boat named “FB. Salma” of Baga area in Bagerhat district took shelter in Bhedkhali canal in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans (in Bagerhat district) told, to the newsmen of Sharankhola Upazila over mobile phone on Monday at noon we were forced to leave the sea on Monday (September 18) late afternoon as the sea became violent following gusty wind and heavy rolling of water a good number fishing boats took shelter in Bhedkhali canal and other canals of Eastern Sundarbans.

M Saiful Islam Khokon, Vice-president of the owners’ Association of Bangladesh fishing trawlers and a fish dealer of Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district told, fishermen who go to the sea for catching fish are forced to return without catching fish again and again for the prevailing of foul weather there (in the sea).

As a result, both the fishermen and the owners fishing boats and trawlers are incurring heavy losses and they are going to be destitute.
