A housewife was allegedly beaten to death for dowry in Stadium Para area of Jashore Town on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Sharmin Sultana Preeti (26) wife of Mahabubur Rahman Sabur of the same area. Preeti’s father Mubarak Hossain alleged that his daughter was killed for dowry. The victim’s husband Sabur claimed that Preeti had committed suicide due to a family feud.
Mubarak Hossain said that Sabur got married to my daughter 10 years ago. But Son-in-law unemployed since marriage. My daughters family depend on my money.
Thinking about my daughter’s happiness, I have given at least 10 lakh taka to my son-in-law since the marriage.
He further said, ‘Sabu asked my daughter to bring another 7 lakh taka as he was addicted to drugs.
After refusing the money, Preeti was beaten and injured and kept at home and Sabur said my wife drank pesticides. Neighbors rescued her and admitted to Jashore General Hospital. Preeti died last night while undergoing treatment there, ‘added Mubarak Hossain.
The victim’s husband Mahabubur Rahman Sabu denied the allegations. “Preeti has committed suicide due to family quarrel.”
Jashore Kotwali Police Station OC (Investigation) Sheikh Tasmeem Alam said that The family of the deceased has alleged murder. After receiving the autopsy report, it will be possible to say the exact cause of death. Then we will take legal action.
