Entertainment Report :
Three-day long ‘Modhur Mela,’
initiated by popular folk singer Momtaz Begum, was held on the first day of New Year, 2023. The 22nd
season of the festival took place
at the Joymontop Baul Complex
of Singair in Manikganj.
While talking to arrange the festival, Momtaz told this correspondent, “The folk songs and handicraft items that have been our cultural assets for thousands of years are getting distracted with time. It is absolutely necessary to cherish our traditions by keeping our cultural heritage in our hearts. From there, I organised the festival in
memory of my late father, baul devotee Modhu Boyati, as I do every year. I believe that everyone’s presence at the festival made this small arrangement of mine very worthwhile. Like every year, we hope that the ‘Modhur Mela’ became successful in terms of colours. My sincere gratitude and love to everyone involved in this event.”
The Member of Parliament, Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury was present on the opening day of the festival which
started at 3:00pm. Latif Sarkar and Mukta Sarkar performed for the whole night starting at 10:00pm on the opening day. On the second day of the
festival, Manik Dewan and Ruma Sarkar took the stage for the whole night. On the closing day on December 3, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque was present as the chief guest of the event. Suman Sarkar, a well-known singer from Kolkata and Bikash Sarkar
performed that night, Momtaz said.
