A motorcyclist named Fakhrul Islam (28) was killed when a speeding Shyamoli Paribahan bus hit him in Barlekha of Moulvibazar.
The accident took place on Monday evening at 7.30 pm in front of the Kathaltali BRAC office on the Barlekha-Kulaura regional Highway.
The deceased was identified as Fakhrul Islam, son of Abdul Mannan of Uttar Gangkul village under Dakshinbhag (South) union of the upazila. Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and recovered the body. Ghatak along with the driver detained the bus at that time.
According to eyewitnesses and hospital sources, Fakhrul Islam was returning to Ratuli Bazar on a motorcycle from Barlekha. The Shyamli bus heading towards Beanibazar from Dhaka, which was coming from the opposite direction on the road in front of Kathaltali BRAC office, crushed him and fled quickly. Members of the fire service rescued Fakhrul Islam in critical condition and took him to hospital. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
