Director of Environment Department (Dhaka Region) Syed Nazmul Ahsan (56) and his wife Nahid Binte Alam (48) have died mysteriously.
His wife, Nahid, died in the morning while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday. Syed Nazmul Ahsan died on Wednesday afternoon at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (ShSMC).
According to a hospital source, the duo died of excessive alcohol consumption. However, no one has commented on this till now.
Confirming the death, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirpur Police Station Munshi Chhabbir Ahmad said that the husband and wife fell ill on Wednesday at the residence of Mirpur-2 Officers Complex. Later, when the family members took Nazmul Ahsan to Suhrawardy Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
At the same time, his ailing wife, Nahid bint Alam, was admitted to BSMMU. On Thusday, she died while undergoing treatment there.
The couple left behind two daughters. One of them is 2 years old, and the other is 15 years old.
The OC of Mirpur Police Station also said that the cause and details of their death will be known after getting the post-mortem report. If their family complains, then an investigation will be done.
Nazmul Ahsan’s brother, Syed Abu Zafar, said that a case of death has been lodged with Mirpur Model Police Station in this regard.
