Father, son arrested with venison from Sundarbans

Two poachers were arrested along with venison from Dumuria forest area within Sharankhola Forest Range under the Eastern Division of Sundarbans in Bagerhat district on Thursday morning.
Then the forest guards seized 12 kgs venison, a 300 feet long trap, one trawler and a boat from there. The arrested poachers were identified as father Hanif Mistry (48) and his son Masum Mistry (28) hail from Khetachera village under Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur district.
Md. Belayet Hossain, DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of the Eastern Division told, in the morning while the forest guards of Sharankhola Forest Range were discharging their normal patrol duties in Dumuria area of the forest they found one trawler and one boat and challenged them. Then the poachers tried to flee away into the deep forest leaving the trawler and the boat. But the forest guards chased them and they were able to arrest two of them (poachers) who are father and son.
Three more poachers managed to escape. Later the forest guards seized the boat and the trawler and recovered 12 kgs venison and a trap from them (trawler and boat). In this connection a case was registered with Sharankhola PS against both arrested and fugitive poachers under Forest Act. The arrested poachers were sent to jail through the court.
