New pesticide to control mosquitoes in city

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Wednesday expressed his optimism over controlling mosquito menace using new pesticides they had imported.
“We have imported new pesticides which will be more effective in killing mosquitoes. The corporation will use it after two weeks. I hope that the mosquitoe menace will be more controlled after the two weeks,” DSCC Mayor said it while visiting Sadek Hossain Khoka play ground.
Fazle Noor said that use of same pesticide repeatedly creates tolerance on the part of mosquitoes about the chemical.
So, new pesticides is to be applied, the mayor said.
He said that Culex mosquitoes are on increase during the winter as the water flowing remain slow in the time. But we are hopefull that the mosquitoes menace is on reducing in recent days in areas under DSCC jurisdictions.
“We are conducting strong measures in making a clean city and removal of waste which made a clean city here and it will also ruin mosquitoes,” Mayor Taposh said.
Mentioning the lack of open spaces and playground for the children, DSCC mayor said we are trying to ensure minimum one play ground in each ward.
“I have visited Titipara area near the Kamlapur Railway Junction and found enormous lands are remaining under illegal grabbing. We will send letter to concern authorities so that the land will be released for constructing playground for our children,” the mayor said.
He said that the city corporation have evicted an
open space from illegal grabbers in ward-42 and is constructing a play ground. Children may be able to play there within next month, he added.
The mayor said that the city corporation would not give its open spaces to any club.
Stressing on removing water logging in rainy season, Fazle Noor said that they are trying to clean and evict every city canal in this regards.
“We are cleaning different canals in our jurisdictions to make water flow normal freeing the city from water logging. We have extended the canal cleaning programmes from March to April. The corporation has started a pump so far and the rest pumps will be started within two weeks. Our efforts are to make water flowing in all canals and culverts before the next rainy season,” the mayor said.
He said that grabbers would not be allowed to repeat their social evils.
“No any housing company will be allowed to fill any low-lying land to construct housings,” he said.
