Life Desk  :

Ovarian pain is caused due to various conditions like ovarian cysts, ovarian tumors, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory diseases, ovarian remnant syndrome and Mittelschmerz.
The ovaries are two small structures of the female reproductive system that produce eggs. An egg is fertilized by the sperm, resulting in the formation of a fetus. Besides, the ovaries also produce female hormones that play an important role in the development of female sexual characteristics.
Pain arising from the ovaries is usually located in the lower abdomen or the pelvis. The type and duration of the pain vary according to the underlying cause. The pain may also be associated with a particular phase of the menstrual cycle.
Common causes of ovarian pain include ovarian cysts, endometriosis, ovarian tumors, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian remnant syndrome, and Mittelschmerz.
Tests used for diagnosis of ovarian pain usually depend upon the suspected underlying cause. Medical history and a complete physical examination of the patient are found to very useful in diagnosing the cause of the pain.
Treatment of ovarian pain depends upon the diagnosed condition.
