Zakat fair kicks off in city

28 June 2014

BSS, Dhaka :
Second Zakat Fair-2014 kicked off in the city's Shooting Club Friday with an aim to encourage Muslims, especially those affluent in the society, to pay their Zakat institutionally.
Inaugurating the two-fair as the chief guest, state minister for finance and planning MA Mannan said institutional Zakat ensure greater impact on the distressed and the needy rather than individual Zakat and urged the wealthy Muslims of the country to pay their Zakat institutionally.
He said the government has accelerated poverty alleviation and social safety-net programs under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the benefits are already reflected in the economic development.
"Zakat can play a very important role in such poverty alleviation and social safety-net programs," the minister added.
