Nathan Walker, who last month became the first Australian drafted into the NHL, has inked a three-year, entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals, the team said Friday.
Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan announced the signing of the 20-year-old left wing, who was taken 89th overall in the draft.
Walker registered 11 points (five goals and six assists) and 40 penalty minutes in 43 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League in 2013-14.
During the 2012-13 season, Walker recorded 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) and 63 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL.
Walker represented Australia at the International Ice Hockey Federation's 2011 World Championship Division II tournament and at the 2012 World Championship Division 1 Group B tournament.
