BCL, Shibir clash at CU

25 August 2014 bdnews24.com

Activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and the Islami Chhatra Shibir engaged in a turf war on Sunday at Chittagong University (CU).
The two groups clashed around 5pm near the university's Suhrawardy Hall.
Some of those who reside at the campus said several shots were fired during the clash.
Proctor Prof Sirajuddoula told bdnews24.com that additional police forces were deployed on the campus to control the situation. Hathazari Police Station OC Ismail Hossain told bdnews24.com that they were trying to disperse the confronting groups.
In January this year, two students were killed and many others injured during a turf war between BCL and Shibir at CU's Shah Amanat Hall. The university authorities had sealed the dormitory after that incident. Recently the university authorities decided to reopen it after cancelling the seats allotted earlier. They have also invited applications for allotment of new seats.
