4 dying, washing factories in Gazipur fined

The Department of Environment (DoE) on Monday fined the authorities of four dying and washing factories Tk37lakh for polluting environment in Kaliakoir upazila of the city.
Assistant director Mohammad Hafizur Rahman of the department said a team of DoE led by Md Alamgir, director (Monitoring and Enforcement) of its Dhaka headquarters, visited different factories in Kaliakoir upazila and Kashimpur Nayapara of the city on September 14 and collected water from outlet for ETP observation of the factories.
The DoE on Monday fined three factories-Montex Fabrics Ltd, Multi Fabs Ltd and Hesong Ltd-Tk 10 lakh each and Mourishous Intercontinental Ltd Tk 7 lakh for polluting the environment after hearing in this regard.
During the hearing, the authorities of the factories sought an apology and pledged a commitment to take preventive measures in this regard.
