6 of a family killed in Mymensingh road accident

Seven people including six of a family were killed as a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh on Sunday noon.
The incident took place on Netrokona-Mymensingh highway near Gachtola bazar area in Tarakanda upazila.
The deceased are CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Rakibul Hasan, 30, of Charlakkhipur village in Mymensingh, Faruk Hossen, 30, of Pechualenji village in Netrokona's Purbadhala upazila, his wife Masuma Khatun, their three-day-old child, his sister Julekha Khatun, brother Nizam Uddin, 32 and sister-in-law Josna Begum.

Confirming the matter, Nayan Das, officer-in-charge of Shyamganj Highway Police Station, said they seized the bus but its driver managed to flee away from the spot.
When contacted, Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound bus of Shah Jalal Paribahan hit a Netrokona-bound auto-rickshaw, leaving seven people dead on the spot.
Meanwhile, at least 464 people were killed and 513 were injured in 402 road accidents throughout the country in December last year, according to a report of Road Safety Foundation.
Of them, 147 were killed in 138 motorcycle accidents.
Of the deaths, a total of 17 people died in five waterway accidents while 19 died and four were injured in rail accidents, the release said.
Road Safety Foundation has prepared the report on the basis of information of seven daily newspapers, five online portals and electronic media.
According to analysis of the Road Safety Foundation, 124 accidents (30.84 percent) occurred on highways; 129 (32.08 percent) occurred on regional roads; and 104 (25.87 percent) incidents occurred on local roads.
The statistics said that most of the accidents took place in Dhaka division. Total 138 people died in 117 incidents of road crashes in this division. Unfit vehicles, reckless driving, unskilled drivers and disobedience to traffic rules are among the reasons behind the accidents, the report said.
Besides, three people were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents at Ishwardi upazila in Pabna.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Khaleq, 33, and Anisur Rahman, 40, residents of Bheramara upazila in Kushtia district; and Mohammad Rahman, 45, of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district.
Police sources said a three-wheeler turned turtle on the Ishwardi-Kushtia highway around 9 am when it was going to Ishwardi-Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant from Bheramara, leaving one dead on the spot while another died on the way to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Deceased Abdul Khaleq and Anisur were the workers at the nuclear power plant.
Four others also received injuries in the accident.
Meanwhile, a goods-laden truck rammed into a three-wheeler (locally known as Nosiman) in Sahapur union on the Chilimpur Kadimpara Grameen Road around 11 am, leaving the three-wheeler driver Mohammad Rahman injured.
The injured was rushed to Pabna General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 12:30 pm.
Ishwardi Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin confirmed the matter.
