Schools, colleges to reopen March 30

The government has decided to reopen all primary, secondary and higher secondary educational institutions on March 30.
Education Minister Dipu Moni said this after a meeting held at the ministry on Saturday evening.
Maintaining health guidelines, Class V, Class X (old) and Class XII students will attend classes regularly at schools, colleges and madrassahs while students of other classes would attend classes by rotations, she added.
'The institutions will ensure required facilities for maintaining guidelines set by the government and the government agencies will monitor their implementations,' she added.
Public and private universities, however, will reopen on May 24 after vaccination of all the teachers and 1.30 lakh residential students of public universities.
The residential halls will be reopened on May 17 she said before adding online classes will continue but no examination will be held before the reopening of the universities.
'The education ministry is working with the health ministry for providing with COVID-19 vaccines to the residential students and an estimated six lakh teachers and relevant officials and staffers,' she added.
According to the Ministry of Education, there are 406,469 teachers and 162,861 employees in secondary and higher secondary institutions across the country.
Pre-primary students need not to go schools unless situation became normal again, she added.
Dipu Momni further said that the government had already customised syllabuses for Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate examinations.
SSC examination is likely to be held in July while HSC in the next month, she added.     
State minister for primary and mass education Md Zakir Hossain, health minister Zahid Maleque, and home affairs minister Asaduzzaman Khan among others were present at the cabinet committee meeting.
Following the outbreak of Covid-19, the government announced the closure of all schools on March 17 last year.
The shutdown period has since been extended on several occasions, most recently until February 28 this year.
The pandemic also resulted in the cancellation of last year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams.
The government has also scrapped Primary Education Completion (PEC) exams for the fifth graders, and Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) exams for the eighth graders along with the annual exams for students of Class VI to Class X.
