JICA chair seminar held at DU

Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki called on Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman at the latter\'s office of the university recently.

The Department of Japanese Studies of Dhaka University (DU), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh jointly organized 'JICA Chair Seminar on Japanese Experience of Economic Development: Implications to Bangladesh' today March 10, 2021 at Prof. Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of the university. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman attended it as the Chief Guest.
The JICA Chair Seminar is organized to commemorate the Birth Centenary of Dhaka University and upcoming 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Japan. The JICA Chair is a program that aims to contribute to development studies by sharing Japan's development experience.
Japanese Ambassador Mr. Naoki Ito attended it as Special Guest while Prof. Dr. Hiroyuki Itami, President of International University of Japan delivered the JICA Chair Lecture on 'Economic Growth and Japanese Management' in the seminar.
Prof. Dr. Kenichi Ohno of National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Japan also delivered a special lecture on 'Policy Learning for Economic Growth and Industrial Transformation'.
Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office Mr. Yuho Hayakawa gave welcome speech while founder Chairman of DU Department of Japanese Studies Prof.  Dr.  Abul Barkat,  Director of DU Institute of Modern Languages Prof. Dr. A B M Razaul Karim Faquire and Prof. Dr. Delwar Hossain of DU Department of International Relations took part in the discussion. Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun, Chairman of DU Department of Japanese Studies chaired the seminar.
DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, Bangladesh has already qualified to graduate into a Developing Country from Least Developed Country (LDC) under the dynamic leadership and relentless works of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Japan is one of the largest development partners of Bangladesh.
These two nations have been enjoying an excellent friendly relation for a long time. He lauded the significant role and contribution of Japan to the development of education, trade, business, health, agriculture and other sectors of Bangladesh.
Japanese Ambassador Mr. Naoki Ito said, our support and help for the development of Bangladesh will continue in the days to come. The existing friendly relations between Japan and Bangladesh will reach to a new height through strengthening reciprocal cooperation, he hoped.
Earlier Japanese Ambassador Mr. Naoki Ito called on DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman at the latter's office of the university. They discussed matters of mutual interests.
