One convicted for 7yrs on charge of attempt to rape

Mohammad Nur-e-Alam, judge of Anti Women and Children Repression Tribunal-2 of Bagerhat, in judgment delivered on Tuesday afternoon, convicted Shankar Mallik (51), son of one Jagannath Mallik of village Ramchandrapur under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 7 years and to pay a fine of Tk.25 thousand in default to suffer simple imprisonment for 3 months more in absentia of the accused on the charge of attempt to commit rape with a woman of the same village.
The prosecution story, in short, is that the victim woman lodged a case with Morrelganj PS on July 22 in the year of 2017 against the convicted person on the charge of attempt to commit rape with her forcibly. Police after investigating into the matter submitted a charge-sheet to the court on December 04 in the same year accusing the man. After examining the evidences and 10 witnesses the learned judge awarded the accused person the aforesaid punishment in absentia of the man.
