SYLHET: Warm clothes distributed among the needy people at Pir Mohollah under Sylhet Sadar upazila organised by One Ummah, a social organisation on Wednesday.

The 'Prottasha Foundation', formed with the financial support of expatriates, has distributed cash and blankets to various religious institutions and needy people in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. AKM Golam Morshed Khan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) distributed cash and blankets as the Chief Guest under the overall management of Mehdi Hassan Monir, President of the organization and expatriate from Qatar.
Akhter Hossain, vice-president of Pratasha Foundation, a completely non-political voluntary organization, presided over the function. Chairman of Targaon Union Parishad and President of Local Union Awami League Alhaj Md. Ayubur Rahman Sikder inaugurated the distribution program under the guidance of prominent social worker Md. Nazrul Islam.
Former Headmaster Sufia Begum, President of Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee and Advisor of the organization, Abul Bashar Afrid, President of MR High School Managing Committee, FM Kamal Hossain, Former President of Kapasia Press Club, Former UP Member Ashiqul Iman Soyeb, UP spoke as special guests. Member Abul Kalam Khan, Chief Coordinator of Targaon Union Social Association and President of Kapasia Singapore Expatriate Welfare Association Md. Babu Sheikh, Vice President of the organization Md. Sharif, Kawsar Majhi, Ataur Sheikh, General Secretary Shahin Alam and others. Besides, the joint general secretary of the organization Md. Farooq, Aibur Rahman, Farooq Sikder, organizing secretary Al-Amin Moral, co-organizing secretary Junaid Hossain Rony, members Masum, Billal Hossain, Tareq Rahman, Kawshar Islam, Parvez, Hasan Ali, Sabbir Rahman, among others. Sohail, Shahriar Al Nafis and other dignitaries of the area were present.
Sylhet Bureau says: Some 500 distressed people in Pir Mohollah under Sylhet Sadar upazila were given winter packs (blanket) as gifts of One Ummah, a social for protecting them from the current cold bite.
Founder and chief patron of Jaitun Welfare Trust Abdul Majid Lal Mia, Chairperson Rabia Tahera Majid, Vice President Enamul Kabir distributed these winter packs (blankets) among the cold-hit people in different areas of the Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
When the distressed people came to know the gift sent by the one Ummah Bangladesh, a delightful smile appeared on their faces. The helpless people are overjoyed after getting the One Ummah's gift.
Gafargaon (Mymensingh) Correspondent adds: The Mymensingh District Branch of the Social Eider Development Organization, a voluntary organization of Mymensingh, distributed winter blankets among nearly half a century of poor, helpless, disadvantaged and marginalized people. The distribution of blankets was held in front of Altaf Hossain Golandaj District Council Auditorium in the municipal town on Wednesday.
Joint convener of Bangladesh Juba League Gafargaon Municipal Branch Tajmun Ahmed, painter JI Sumon and other leaders and members of the organization were also present on the occasion. Asked about this, Rejuana Fauzia Rinat, "Education and Research Secretary" of the Central Committee of the Social Aidar Development Organization, said: "The organization aims at education, health, cooperation and the environment. InshaAllah I will continue to do good deeds only in the future.
Two members of human trafficking ring arrested in Sylhet: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) -9 arrested two persons from Sylhet on charges of human trafficking on Tuesday. A team of RAB-9 raided and arrested them from Serampore Bazar under Moghlabazar in Sylhet.
The arrested are Shahidul Islam Shahin, 40, son of late Abdul Alim of Nazirergaon of Jalalabad police station of Sylhet and Mohammad Ali of Dakshin Sultanpur village of Moglabazar police station. Manik Miah's son Ashikur Rahman (35).
The RAB is monitoring a few more members of this human trafficking ring. Major Mahfuzur Rahman, media officer of RAB-9, said that they would be arrested soon.
"A young man from Sylhet who was captured by this gang has recently fled India and complained to us," he said. Later, RAB-9 started investigation and arrested two members of the gang.
Major Mahfuzur Rahman said, it is a terrible cycle. They showed various temptations and sent young men and women to different countries including Nepal and India and took them hostage in the hands of the gang members there. He later extorted money from the prisoner's family. In India, a young man who was captured in this way has recently escaped and taken refuge with us.
Major Mahfuzur Rahman further said that a lot of information was obtained by interrogating the two arrested persons. We are keeping an eye on a few more members of this gang, they will be arrested soon.
