Lighter vessel sinks in the Bay: 12 crews missing

Twelve crew members have gone missing after a lighter ship Sajal Tanmoy-2 sank in the Bay of Bengal. Members of the Bangladesh Navy are working to rescue them. The incident took place on April 16 near the Bhasanchar in the Bay of Bengal. The news was confirmed by Captain Kazi Shah Alam, Zonal Commander, East Zone of Coast Guard. He said a lighterage ship named Sajal Tanmoy sank near Bhasanchar in Noakhali.
Twelve crew members of the ship are missing. A coast guard ship has arrived near the scene. However, as the sea is rough, rescue work is gaining momentum.
Captain Kazi Shah Alam said that after the sinking of the ship, a navy ship was conducting rescue operation in the sunken lighterage crew.
The cause of the sinking was not immediately known. Deputy Director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority Selim said that the lighterage ship sank near Bhasanchar. It was carrying coal from Chattogram to Dhaka. The Coast Guard and Navy are trying to rescue the occupants.
