Bangladesh sends humanitarian assistance to Afghan people

Bangladesh has sent a consignment of humanitarian assistance to support the people of Afghanistan, who have been badly affected by the recent earthquake on June 22.
A C-130-J aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force on Tuesday carried the emergency relief materials, including medicines, blankets, dry food and tents.
The items will be handed over to the Afghan government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Foreign Ministry said Bangladesh and Afghanistan has a historic relation. Many of the Bangladeshis were stranded in Pakistan in 1971 and then the Afghan government and its people came forward to help Bangladeshis for safe return.
Following this historic ties and the coordinated development policy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, one crore taka from the Foreign Ministry budget had been sent to the UN OCHA fund for the assistance of Afghan general people to tackle the emerging situation due to the political change in the country.
But the recent earthquake has shattered Afghanistan, which claimed the lives of over one thousand people and wounded more than 2000 people and devastated hundreds of residents.
The earthquake has created human disaster as people are suffering in want of food, water, dwelling place and emergency treatment.
Against this situation, Bangladesh sent the humanitarian assistance on emergency basis to stand by the Afghan people.
Bangladesh Armed Forces Division, Essential Drug Company Limited, BGMEA, Pran-RFL, Akij Food and Beverage have contributed the items for humanitarian assistance.
