Puja Udjapan Committee emphasis communal harmony

Leaders of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Dhaka Mahanagor Sarbojanin Puja Committee on Saturday called on people from every corner to carry the sentiment of communal harmony focusing Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu Community, began on Saturday with Maha Shasthi Puja.
The Sanatoni believer made this urge at a view exchange meeting with the newly elected leaders of Religious Reporters Forum (RRF), an organization of journalist's working to cover the religious affairs reports, organised at the Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital.
Led by RRF President Ubaidullah Badol and General Secretary Kamruzaman Bablu, a group of journalists including Executive Committee Mohosinul Karim Lebu, former Joint Secretary Mohamad Naimuddin and Dhaka Reporters Unity Executive Committee Sushanto Kumar Saha were present at the discussion.
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad's President J L Bhumik, General Secretary Prof Dr. Chandranath Poddar (University of Dhaka, Department of Mathematics), Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee President Monindra Kumar Nath, former President Shilendronath Majumder, also a retired secretary, Adviser Jayanto Sen Dipu, Women Affairs Secretary Padmaboti Debi and member Dipali Chakraborti were also present at the discussion meeting.
Puja Udjapan Parishad President J L Bhumik said, "We (the Hindu community) did not attend the Liberation War in 1971 to gain such an insulting Identity is called 'minority'. This notion is against the spirit of the liberation war and the constitution of 1972," he said.
Prof Dr. Chandranath Poddar noted that the current government is working for the development of the minority community but such initiatives are insufficient.
He urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to prevent such discrimination.
Meanwhile, Religious Minister Md Faridul Haq Khan on Saturday distributed clothes while he was present at the Siddheswari temple and Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar distributed clothes among poor people.
