BCL attack on JCD DU admin unable to recognize attackers03 October 2022
DU Correspondent :
Five days elapsed since the attacks on Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), but the Dhaka University (DU) authority is yet to recognize the attackers despite the attackers are well-known on the campus.
Besides, some newspapers published news with the attackers' name and photo including several video footages of the attack as well as the areas remain under CCTV camera, but the DU administration could not do their duty.
BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami-backed 'White panel' teachers of the university raised question 'Did not the university administration support in planning this brutal attack on JCD leaders?
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) carried out the attack on JCD leaders led by BCL Sir AF Rahman Hall President Reazul Islam and General Secretary Munem Shahriar Moon when they were coming to DU campus for joining a pre-schedule meeting with Vice-Chancellor and proctor on September 27.
Although, DU Vice-Chancellor gave them schedule for meeting and BCL announced to prevent them, the university's proctorial body was negative to make the situation calm and give them security.
"When Vice-Chancellor of the university gives schedule to someone under such a situation, university administration remains responsible for their security considering the university's image. But what we saw on the 27th September that really hurt us," Joint-Convener of white panel Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan said.
Asking about whether any attackers have been identified yet and why there is delay in identifying the attackers, DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani told The New Nation on Sunday, "we are in a process to prepare a report in this regard. It will be known about the attackers after publishing the report."
Moreover, White panel teachers strongly condemned and protested the attack saying it was a brutal, despicable and barbaric-terrorist attack of BCL in a press conference on Sunday held at DU teacher's Club.
"JCD leaders were attacked and injured by BCL miscreants for the failure of the university administration, especially the university proctorial team," they said in a written statement.
"Did the university administration have any support in planning this malicious attack on JCD leaders? If not, why was the proctorial team remained ineffective in ensuring safety when the JCD leaders came for the pre-scheduled program to meet with Vice-Chancellor," they claimed.
Demanding to make co-existence atmosphere among student's organizations in the campus, they said, "Peaceful co-existence of all, irrespective of party affiliation were the tradition of the university. But it turned out to be almost unthinkable."
They also placed four-point demand to ensure fair environment of education in the campus.
The four points are taking necessary measures to stop all kinds of terrorist activities on the campus, giving medical care for JCD leaders injured in the September 27 attack, prompt legal action against identified terrorists involved with the attack and to ensure the coexistence of all factions including student organizations in campuses and halls.
Professor Lutfor Rahman, Convener of white panel, Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, former General Secretary of Dhaka University Teachers Association, Dr Md Mohiuddin, Provosts of Sir PJ Hartog International Hall and other were present at the press conference.
