Govt made money in the name of generating electricity: BNP06 October 2022

The BNP on Wednesday accused the Awami League government of making huge money in the name of generating electricity.
"As large portions of the country were left without electricity due to power grid malfunctioning on Tuesday. It was the visible example of the AL government's huge development on energy setor," BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a press briefing in the capital on Wednesday.
Criticising and censuring the government, the BNP leader said that the Awami League government's development on energy sector became visible on Tuesday.
He also blamed the government's irresponsibility for the Tuesday's long time blackouts across the country.
The BNP Secretary General came up with the remarks while talking to journalists at former State Minister for power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku's residence at Mohammadpur in the capital.
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was present.
Due to the collapse of national grid early Tuesday afternoon, as much as 75-80 per cent of the country plunged into darkness simultaneously.
The large parts of the capital Dhaka, Chattogram, Cumilla and Sylhet were left without electricity for hours, causing massive sufferings to people.
The power supply situation turned gradually normal at night, eight hours after the collapse.
Criticising such a disaster in national grid, the BNP leader said the government has taken projects only for making money through corruption.
The government has invited sadness for people in the name of development.
"The government has been claiming loudly that they become self-reliant in electricity, the incident was its visible example," he said.
The BNP leader said Tuesday's thing was totally unusual. There was no electricity across the country as many as eight hours. It was a total blackout.
It indicates that the government has taken many projects in the name of development in power sector, but also earned huge amount of money behind the doors.
"The power grid failure was a major disaster for the government, it was a total failure of the government," Mirza Fakhrul said.
He also called upon the government to resign immediately from power for inability to ensure the people's hazard free daily life.
Mill factories failed to continue productions, students could not study due to the blackout, the BNP leader said.
