Art & Culture Report :
An exceptional Jazz concert organised by Goethe Institut Bangladesh, featuring a leading German jazz group named Thaerichen’s Tentett held on November 25 from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the main auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segunbagicha area.
The 10-member German line-up was the largest Jazz group ever visited Bangladesh.
Thaerichen’s Tentett is well known for its colourful mix of jazzy sounds with unforeseen and unpredictable elements.
With their maiden tour in India and Bangladesh, Thaerichen’s Tentett celebrated their fifteenth founding anniversary.
The concert was divided into two parts and duration of each part was 45 minutes with a short interval in the middle.
The musical director, Nicolai Thaerichen, founded Thaerichen’s Tentett in 1999 with the singer Michael Schiefel. This ten-piece-band performs Nicolai’s original compositions, mostly songs set on poems by artists like Dorothy Parker, Lord Byron, Thomas Hardy and Ronald D Laing.
Their performances are characterised by felicitous compositions, polished arrangements and humorous compositions. n
