Shilpakala Academy pays tribute to Bhupen Hazarika on his 11th death anniversary

In memory of the renowned Assamese-Indian playback singer, lyricist, musician, poet and
filmmaker Dr Bhupen Hazarika
on his 11th death anniversary, a commemorative event was organised on Saturday evening at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) under the initiative of Shilpakala Academy and Byatikram MASDO, said a press release.
Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Cultural Affairs State Minister K M Khalid attended the commemorative event as the chief guest, while Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Cultural Affairs Ministry's Secretary Md Abul Monsur and Chief Coordinator of Friends of Bangladesh Coordinating Chapter A S M Shamsul Arefin were also present as special guests on the occasion. Prominent voice artiste and President of MASDO Manisha Hazarika and Dr Saumen Bharatiya, President of Byatikram MASDO, attended the event as discussants. A cultural programme was also held after the discussion.
The legendary Assamese musician Dr Bhupen Hazarika achieved India’s highest civilian awards, including Bharat Ratna (2019, posthumous), Padma Vibhushan (2012), Padma Bhushan (2001) and Padma Shri (1977).
He also received Assam’s highest civilian award Asom Ratna (2009), and Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1992) and became a National Award-winning film director for the best Assamese feature film of 1961, Shakuntala. The music maestro died on November 5, 2011.
