Bangabandhu 7th President Cup Fencing Champ begins

The artistes perform at a cultural programme during the inaugural session of the Bangabandhu 7th President Cup Fencing Championship at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the city\'s Mirpur on Tuesday.

The inaugural program of the Bangabandhu 7th President Cup Fencing Championship was held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the city's Mirpur on Tuesday.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.
It was presided over by Bangladesh Fencing Federation (BFF) President Shoeb Chowdhury. The programme was anchored by Bangladesh Fencing Federation Joint General Secretary Rezaur Rahman Sinha.
Shoeb Chowdhury paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangladeshi fencers have retained their spirit and rhythm despite the turbulent time the world is going through at this moment because of the Russia-Ukraine War. Shoeb Chowdhury applauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for supporting the expansion of sports across Bangladesh. He also thanked State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel for upgrading Bangladesh Fencing Association to Bangladesh Fencing Federation.
Bangladesh Bank's former Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman gave the keynote speech at the event. He said that Bangabandhu is another name for Bangladesh. He deplored the false propaganda about the country's economy by a vested quarter. Dr. Atiur Rahman assured that Bangladesh's economy stands on a firm foothold and urged everyone not to believe in rumours. Dr. Atiur Rahman referred to Shoeb Chowdhury as a leader by birth.
Special Guest Lieutenant General (Retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, former Commandant of National Defence College said, "leadership is a vital thing."
"Bangabandhu's unflinching leadership freed Bangladesh from Pakistan", Sheikh Mamun Khaled stated. He also praised the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has uplifted Bangladesh to the status of a developing country.
BFF General Secretary Selim Omrao Khan gave the welcome speech. Selim Omrao Khan said, he is confident about the quality and dedication of Bangladeshi fencers who can promote the country's honour on the global stage.
BFF Vice President Mohiuddin Ahmed and Vice President Abdul Mabud also spoke on the occasion.
