Shaheed Dr Milon Day observed

'Shaheed Dr Milon Day' was observed across the country on Sunday commemorating the 32nd martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, the then joint secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages recalling the supreme sacrifice of Dr Milon for the cause of restoration of democracy, reports BSS.
Various political, social and cultural organizations paid floral tributes at his grave on the Dhaka Medical College premises.
Awami League leaders paid tributes to the grave of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milan at 8am. The party also held different programmes to offer special prayers.
Apart from this, various social and cultural organizations placed floral wreaths at Dr Milon's grave as well. At the same time, they prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) organised different programmes to observe the day.
Doctors, officers, nurses led by BSMMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Sharfuddin Ahmed paid floral tributes at his grave on the Dhaka Medical College premises and prayed for the peace of the soul.
Later, they paid tribute at the portrait of Dr Milan at BSMMU and recalled the life of Dr Milan.
Dr Milon, who was also a lecturer of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), was killed by the goons of military junta near the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University at the height of anti-autocracy movement on the day in 1990.
The supreme sacrifice of Dr Milon transformed the anti-autocracy movement into a mass upsurge that prompted the fall of the then autocratic regime paving the way for restoration of democracy in the country.
