19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh begins today

The month-long 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 will
begin at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) today.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the event online as the chief guest. The grand opening of the international biennale exhibition will be held at the National Theatre Hall of the BSA at 10:00am on December 8. Cultural affairs secretary Md Abul Monsur, President of the jury board of the event, artist Rafiqun Nabi and member of the jury board, Jaroslaw Suchan will be present as specials guest, while State Minister for the Cultural Affairs Ministry K M Khalid will chair the inaugural ceremony. The 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 has been dedicated to the founding president of the
country, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
This was announced at a press conference held at the Seminar Room of the National Theatre Hall of BSA on Tuesday. Director General of BSA and Chief Coordinator of 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director of the BSA Fine Arts Department artist Mini Karim and Secretary of the BSA Salahuddin Ahmed spoke at the conference.
Four foreign jurors of the international biennale art event, namely artist and archaeologist Jagath Weerasinghe from Sri Lanka, artist Nurseren Tor from Turkey, director of the Whitechapel Gallery Lwona Blazwick from UK and board of member of The National Committee ICOM Jaroslaw Suchan from Poland were also
present on the occasion.
With the support of Cultural Affairs Ministry, the 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 will feature 649 artworks by 493 artists from 114 countries including Bangladesh. Among them, 149 are Bangladeshi artists and 316 are foreign artists. The event will feature two dimensional and three dimensional artworks such as paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, installations, new media arts and performance arts, said the organisers.
The Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh will hand over three grand prizes
and six honourable mention prizes
at the opening ceremony.
Besides, a two-day international seminar with the participation of local and foreign artists, art critics, jury and observers titled Home and Displacement will be held on December 9 and 10 at the National
Art Gallery Auditorium and Seminar Rooms of the National Theatre Building of the BSA. Therefore, Bangladesh National Museum will display 42 artworks of Bangladeshi legendary master artists from its collection as a part of the 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022. The 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 is scheduled to be held from December 8 to January 7.
