UN Park to be modernised in Port City

12 January 2023

Chattogram Bureau :
The modernisation work of UN Park in Panchlaish residential area of the port city is going to start this month. A contractor has already been appointed to demolish the swimming pool-gymnasium in the park and build a green garden.
The new design of the park has also been finalized. The Public Works Department, the implementing organization, says that if everything goes well, the park will see benefits by the end of 2024. On the other hand, those concerned say that after the implementation of the work according to the design, the United Nations Park, which has been abandoned for a long time, will become the modern entertainment center of Chattogram, which will become the centre of entertainment for people of all ages from children. However, the locals urge to take preliminary steps for maintenance.
Earlier in June 2015, two swimming pools and a gymnasium were built in a part of the UN Park. For which the expenditure is Tk3 crore 94 lakh, which is fully funded by Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).
Even though the swimming pool and gymnasium were built at the cost of so many crores, the park was not used even for a day. Last year, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works took a project to renovate the park and build a green garden.
