Sylhet Strikers registered a thrilling two-run win over Fortune Barishal in their seventh match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city's Mirpur on Tuesday.
After yesterday's outcome, Sylhet led the points table collecting 12 points from seven matches, while Barishal took the second spot bagging 10 points from as many matches.
Sent into bat first, Sylhet piled up a satisfactory 173 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Barishal to 171 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Sylhet faced an early debacle as they lost three wickets for 15 runs.
Opener Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tom Moores repaired the early damage contributing together 81 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Moores was stumped out by wicketkeeper Anamul Haque off Shakib Al Hasan when Sylhet's score was 96 for the loss of four wickets.
Shanto remained unbeaten with 89 runs. His terrific 66-ball innings was laced with 11 fours and a sixer. He was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Tom Moores hit a polished 40. His 30-ball knock was studded with four fours and a sixer.
After Tom's dismissal, Shanto and Thisara Perera built another notable partnership. They added together 68 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Perera was caught by Saif Hassan off Kamrul Islam when Sylhet's total was 164 for the loss of five wickets.
Mohammad Wasim was the most successful bowler of Fortune Barishal. He captured three early wickets for Barishal. He grabbed three wickets in the space of 34 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan and Kamrul Islam took one wicket each for 11 and 31 runs respectively.
Barishal had a good start as openers Saif Hassan and Ibrahim Zadran put on together 42 runs in the opening stand before Saif Hassan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Tanzim Ahsan Sakib.
Later, Ibrahim Zadran and third-down Shakib Al Hasan made another respectable partnership. They added together 61 runs in the third wicket stand before Zadran was bowled out by Rejaur Rahman when Barishal's score was 107 for the loss of three wickets.
After Zadran's dismissal, Barishal failed to make any notable partnership.
Zadran notched up a fine 42. His 37-ball innings had two sixes and four fours.
Saif Hassan and Shakib Al Hasan added 31 and 29 runs respectively to the Barishal total.
Rejaur Rahman grabbed three wickets at the cost of 41 runs, while Mohammad Amir and Tanzim Ahsan Sakib bagged two wickets each for 24 and 40 runs respectively.
