Presidential election scheduled for Feb 19

The 22nd presidential election will be held on February 19.
The commission set February 12 for the last date of submission of the nomination papers.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule after a meeting at his EC office in the capital on Wednesday.
According to the schedule, the presidential election will be held on February 19 as the tenure of incumbent President Abdul Hamid nears an end.
The date for submitting nomination papers is 12 February and those will be reviewed on 13 February. The final date for withdrawing nominations is 14 February.
Voting will be held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban from 2 pm to 5 pm on February 19.
Earlier on Tuesday, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal met with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury to have a discussion over the polls.
Meanwhile , in the last two presidential elections, ruling Awami League nominee Md Abdul Hamid was elected as a 17th person to serve as president.
Hamid's first five-year tenure had expired in 2018, after he took office in 2013.
On April 24, 2018, the current president Md Abdul Hamid was sworn in for the second term. His five-year term will end on April 23, 2023.
According to the constitution, no one can become a president for another term, as he was elected for two terms and the presidential election must be held 60 to 90 days before the expiry of the five-year term.
