Couple killed in gas cylinder explosion in city

A man and his wife were killed in a gas cylinder explosion in Bhatara area of the capital early Thursday.
The incident took place at their house around 5 am in the morning.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Majid Shikder, 72, an inhabitant of Bhatara 100 Feet Sitenagar area and  his wife Taslima Begum, 48.
Abul Bashar Mohammad Asaduzzaman, officer in-charge (OC) of Bhatara Police Station confirmed the matter to the media and said that Abdul Majid suffered burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded at his house around 5 am and the fire spread soon.
Taslima Begum also sustained burn injuries when she tried to save her husband, leaving both dead on the spot, he added.
Later, the bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
