Staff Reporter :
Following the request of Bangladesh Police, the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) on Friday issued a 'Red Notice' against Rabiul Islam, an accused of a Bangladeshi police murder case and who is now staying in Dubai.
Interpol, however, has mentioned his nationality as a 'Bangladeshi' though it has been reported from the government and other sources that he has been
staying in United Arab Emirates with an Indian passport.
Even as per the latest report, the government of Bangladesh is preparing a letter to be sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka requesting to cancel the Indian passport of Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan.
On its website, Interpol has mentioned his name as Rabiul Islam, 35, who was born in Bagerhat district and is charged with a 'murder' case.
Regarding information about Rabiul Islam, the Organisation has requested to all to inform the national or local police if anybody has any information about the accused.
According to Interpol, a Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant.
The individuals are wanted by the requesting member country, or international tribunal. Member countries apply their own laws in deciding whether to arrest a person.
Apart from Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan, there are 62 Bangladeshi nationals who are in the list of Interpol record.
A couple of days earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun at a programme in Chattogram told media that the Interpol accepted the request letter sent by the Bangladesh police to issue a red notice against him.
In the red list, Rabiul Islam's image, gender, birthplace, birth date, age, nationality and the allegations are available.
Earlier during a weekly briefing on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Seheli Sabrin informed the journalists that Arav Khan was under the watch of the government in UAE.
Even she further said that Foreign Ministry is ready to extend cooperation to the Ministry of Home Affairs about the movement of Arav.
However, as per Seheli Sabrin, Home Ministry did not seek any information from them about Arav. But the concerned ministries are working on the issue.
The Arav issue came to the limelight after the killing incident around five years ago when cricketer Shakib al Hasan participated in the inaugural ceremony of Arav Jewllers in Dubai. The government, however, said that they were carrying out all necessary efforts to bring back Arav through the Interpol.
Arav Khan is accused of the murder case of former inspector of Special Branch of police Mamun Emran Khan in 2018.
